Applying For Scholarships

Ugh... I feel like such a loser. I'm trying to apply for scholarships, but there is so much stuff I have to do before I can even think about getting a scholarship. *sigh* Being a senior is hard. I mean, I knew it would be hard, but not this hard. There is also so much stuff that I have to pay for, and it's ridiculous! We got our books talking about everything we need to by for graduation, like memory books, photo albums, cap and gown, and stuff of that nature, and all my stuff sums up to be almost $300!!! Dude! That's about what I get in a year! :(
I'm gonna go and look at some more scholarships and hope for the best. Later on I have to go talk to Mrs. Keen. She is going to help me turn in my applications to ICC next year. *sigh* Ciao.

Talent Show

So tonight, we had a talent show, and let me tell you, it was amazing, no doubt. I'll go on and tell you I didn't win anything, but it was still fun and entertaining. The Twins have been back in town, so the visited Forbus for a little while after school, then they took me to my grandma's house so I could get dressed over there. I wasn't going to go all girly and stuff like that, but I decided I should since all the other girls were doing it. I wore dress pants with a pink under shirt and gray over shirt with black heels. Needless to say, my feet were killing me.
My grandma took me to the talent show even though it was pouring, and when I got there, everyone was setting up. My best friend Mason was working the bake sale, which they had some really good stuff for sale! People kept telling meh I looked good and stuff. You gotta understand... I'm not a girly person, so yeah... LOL!
I had my song on my junk drive cause I forgot to burn it to a CD, so most of the crew backstage had to help me find a way to play. We ripped and ran for about thirty minutes, trying to figure out what to do. In the end, Joey decided to run to his house and get a blank CD for me, which was completely awesome on his part! He's a freaking lifesaver! I was suppose to be perform as number two, right after Mason, but I had to change numbers because of the whole incident with my music, which I didn't mind. So I was number 8 and a girl who hurt her leg, Summer Adams, was #2. It really helped her get across the stage easily.
Mason rapped, Summer sang, two girls danced, another girl sang, and a foreign exchange student named Sang played the piano. After those few kids, Mrs. Mackey (my art teacher), Mrs. K. (the trig teacher) and Mr. Lockhart (the Chemistry student assistant) danced wildly to Lady Gaga. That was the best part of the night, I promise! Mrs. Mackey and Mr. Lockhart had on wigs... yeah, it was just awesome. :)
Once they were done, it was my turn, and I was a nervous wreck! I was trying to calm down before I threw up, and thank God I finally did calm down. I was still nervous though. Kyle Dahlem, who was the speaker, introduced me as just Nykia cause he didn't know my last name (even though it was right there on the paper...) I got on stage and said, "Burdine, Kyle!" and he turned around and said, "Burdine! Nykia Burdine! My bad!" While they were getting the song ready, I thanked all the backstage help and Mrs. Welch for helping me get my song set up, which they didn't have to. I'm sure they appreciated the thanks. Then I sang my song, which was "Never Had A Dream Come True" by S Club 7. I'm in absolute love with that song! I wish I could say I did fantastic on it, but my voice cracked on one part which was really embarrassing. Still, everyone really loved it! I even saw so tears, man! Some folks were happy I sang it because they haven't heard it in FOREVER!!! I mean, it's from the '90's! It's amazing though.
I'll never tell Mason this, but the last part of the song, where I sing, "A part of me will always be with you," I looked right at him when I sang it, and I smiled as wide as I could. I could tell you the whole story behind if I like Mason or not, but I'll save that for a rainy day. Don't wanna bore the three followers I got. LOL! Let's just say I think Mason kinda got the hint, because he was looking right at me and he was turning red and smiling. :) <3
After that (and my standing ovation.. yay me!), Michael Adams played his drums, Hannah Smith sang, Justin Lockhart sang, and all though he messed up quiet a few times, he was still awesome, no matter what he says. Last was Steffani Gordon, then Crossover played. Crossover is a Christian Band started by some of my best buddies from Smithville, and they always sound amazing. They won last year, so this year, they got to play. After that, Mrs. Smith, who was in charge of everything, sang a song to her husband, then Austin Welch announced the winners. Third place was Hannah, second place was Sang, and first place was Joey Brown. Yeah, I forgot to say Joey was last, not Steffani. He did TaeKwonDoe with his assistant, Dustin. I'll admit, they were great and deserved it, but I'm still mad at Joey. He so knew he would win with that!
After the show, I hugged folks and folks told us we did good and stuff. It was really nice. I have two 13 year old friends now named Courtney and Quanda (the ones who danced) and Courtney has a huge crush on John Downs, the lead singer of Crossover. She just saw him tonight for the first time, and she's already obsessed with him! Wow... Anyway, she gave me her number to give to him, which I thought was hilarious! I never got a chance to talk to him, so since Chris Waddell, my brother from another mother, was close to John, I told him to give it to her and tell him what Courtney said. I can only hope John talks to her and either turns her down nicely or talk and get to know her. He's a really sweet guy, so I'm sure he'll get to know her. :)
Well, me and Mason congradulated each other over and over again (I'm telling you, he so killed that rap! :D), then hugged and he bought me a cookie. I loves that boy! :D After I was finally done hugging and talking, we left. I was just happy to take my shoes off.
My grandma got a video of the whole thing, so when I get it from her, I'm gonna put it on Facebook for folks to see. I really need to work on my singing skills if I wanna try out for the talent show at ICC next year! But I'm not mad at all about not winning cause I had such an awesome time, and that means more than a plastic green trophy. I''m done studying Heart of Darkness for the night and done typing my blog, so I'm going to bed. Ciao! <3
